Craft & Snack Sari-Sari Box
This is our tribute to the beloved sari-sari store - a colorful and cultural icon of the Philippines. Introducing the third box in our Filipino cultural exploration box series: CRAFT & SNACK - A Trip to the Sari-Sari Store.
A sari-sari store is a family-run neighborhood convenience store found on almost every street corner in the Philippines. “Sari-sari” means "various kinds" in Tagalog, referring to the goods that are available in a wide range of sorts and sizes. Featured in both rural and urban areas, the sari-sari store plays an integral part of everyday life for the Filipino people. It’s not only a place to conveniently purchase goods and necessities in small quantities, it is a gathering place where friends and neighbors catch up with one another.
In Craft & Snack, families will get to explore the quirks of a typical sari-sari store through craft, color, and play. Shipped in our signature mini balikbayan box, it features an assortment of fun Filipino-flavored snacks. Before consuming these sweet treats, families can use them to play sari-sari store, with the included Philippine play money, aka pesos, and the enclosed Tagalog phrases used for shopping transactions. Along with pretend play comes even more fun with an upcycled craft tutorial transforming the mini balikbayan box into a little sari-sari store, as well as a detailed coloring page featuring sari-sari art by Ethel Martinez of @gunita_designs. And the cherry on top: a collector’s mini button pin featuring a sari-sari store that you can personalize with your kiddo’s name using a fine-tip sharpie!
